🗞️ This Week in Towcester
Remembrance Sunday: Towcester's service
Towcester marks Remembrance Sunday on 8 November with a service at St Lawrence Church at 10.30am, followed by a two-minute silence and wreath laying at 11am, West Northamptonshire Council says.
Road closures this week and next
All of these come from West Northamptonshire Council's roadworks list, in date order:
Thursday 5 and Friday 6 November: Plumpton End in Paulerspury is closed for structure repairs. The Whittlebury end is listed as a diversion route, and the list doesn't give a named diversion.
Sunday 8 November, 10.30am to 11.30am: Remembrance Sunday closures in Silverstone (High Street, with Whittlebury Road as the diversion) and Roade (Memorial Green, Church End and South View).
Monday 9 November, 9.15am to 3.15pm: Brackley Road in Towcester, between Park Street and Gilbert Scott Court, is closed for drainage work, according to the Town Council. The A43 Oxford Road is listed as a diversion route.
Tuesday 10 November, all day: Church Way in Whittlebury is closed for repairs, with Towcester Road as the diversion route.
Local Plan: what's new before the deadline
Since we last covered it, the council has said the Planning Inspectorate will make a scheduled advisory visit during the consultation, and that the Government directed it to continue progressing the current draft (the council's statement, 26 October). Formal comments on the Pre-Submission Local Plan close at 11.59pm on Monday 16 November.
Road safety strategy: have your say until Sunday 6 December
West Northamptonshire Council is consulting on a draft Road Safety Strategy. The council says 134 people were killed or seriously injured on its roads in 2025. There is a virtual drop-in on Monday 23 November, 10am to 11.30am, and the consultation closes on Sunday 6 December.

Have your say on the Local Plan before Monday week
The Local Plan is the document that sets out where West Northamptonshire builds homes and infrastructure, and the formal comment window closes at 11.59pm on Monday 16 November. It is the last chance to comment before the plan goes to an independent Planning Inspector.
The council says comments need to be about whether the plan is legally compliant and sound. That means a comment works best when it names the part of the plan you mean, gives your reason, and says what you would change.
You don't need to be an expert to do that. A short, specific comment from someone who lives with the roads, schools or services in question is exactly what a consultation is for. The consultation page has the plan and the way to respond.
If you do send something in, tell us how you got on. Reply to this email.
